Tejashwi’s major pledge before the Lok Sabha elections is that “Nitish will do the same to Modi”

As Nitish Kumar, the chief minister of Bihar, works harder to unite the opposition ahead of the crucial 2024 Lok Sabha elections, his deputy Tejashwi Yadav asserted on Thursday that the state’s ruling grand alliance would halt “Narendra Modi’s chariot” in the same way that his father Lalu Prasad had stopped “Advani’s yatra.” The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) spokesman said that the BJP, which is now in power at the federal level, was “failing to fulfil promises” and “raising the “Hindu against Muslim” binary whenever its failings were brought to light.”

In addition, Yadav said that “we hear outrageous remarks from some quarters, suggesting that Muslims be deprived of their voting rights.” “Be it Hindus, Muslims, or any other religious community, all had fought for the country’s Independence,” he remarked.

“But be assured, nobody can dare do anything of the like as long as politicians like Lalu Prasad and Nitish Kumar are around. The nation is not anyone’s father’s property, Yadav said to thunderous cheers.

“Lalu had halted L K Advani’s rath (chariot). Now, the ‘Mahagathbandhan’, headed by Nitish Kumar, will quell (Narendra Modi’s) wrath’, said the deputy chief minister of Bihar.

Tejashwi was speaking at a gathering in Patna put on by the cooperative organisation of the state’s handloom weavers.

At the height of the Ramjanmabhoomi campaign in 1990, Lal Krishna Advani’s national “rath yatra” came to an end in the Sitamarhi area, earning Lalu Prasad Yadav, the then-chief minister of Bihar, instant notoriety. Numerous episodes of racial violence have been recorded from the states through which the ‘rath yatra’ travelled.

Tejashwi said they were attempting to guarantee that Congress and regional parties unite in response to Kumar’s opposition unity push.

“This country will be ruined if these people (BJP) return to power,” he warned.

Yadav said there were efforts underway to alter the nation’s history.

“It seems that a tyrant is in charge and that we must submit to his orders. There are changes being made to the Constitution. Nothing significant has been accomplished, he said.

“Those in authority made promises that were never kept, including the creation of two crore jobs, the deposit of $15,000 in every bank account, and the doubling of agricultural income by the year 2022. When we express concerns about these broken promises, they attempt to deflect attention by bringing up the differences between Hindus and Muslims and temples and mosques, the RJD leader said.

On June 23, the much-awaited strategy conference of the opposition parties for 2024 will be held in Patna. Rahul Gandhi and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge are scheduled to attend.
