Will reach Hajipur from Patna in just 15 minutes, people of North Bihar will get great convenience from next month

The second lane of Mahatma Gandhi Setu, the lifeline for North Bihar, has passed the technical trials before the vehicular operations started after reconstruction. After checking the parameters, the technical team has given permission to operate all types of heavy vehicles on the bridge. Union Minister for Surface Transport and National Highways Nitin Gadkari will inaugurate the newly constructed Gandhi Setu on June 7. The bridge is being prepared before the inauguration and commencement of operations. From next month, trains will start filling up here at a speed of 80 kms. Separate arrangements have been made for pedestrians, cyclists and bicyclists on the East Lane bridge, which will now get rid of the jam here.

Departmental sources said that before starting the operation of vehicles, the technical team has checked several parameters to test various parameters of the strength of the newly constructed Gandhi Setu. On this 18 trucks weighing 25-25 tons were kept in different parts for 36 hours. After this the depilation of the bridge was investigated. Along with this, the entire portion of the eastern lane of the 5.575 km long Gandhi Setu has been carefully examined. So that in case of any technical error, it can be rectified immediately. After meeting various technical standards, the strength of the bridge has been stamped. Now preparations are being made for its inauguration.

The agency will maintain the bridge for the next four years

It is to be known that after nearly two decades, trains will start running from June 7 on both the lanes of Mahatma Gandhi Setu, the lifeline of Bihar. At present, the work of painting and final decoration on the bridge is going on in full swing. In November 2016, after the Gandhi Setu had become quite dilapidated, the construction agency got the work order to repair the dilapidated Gandhi Setu superstructure. Then the super structure of both the lanes was to be commissioned by March 2020 by changing the western in 24 months and the eastern in 18 months i.e. both the lanes in 42 months. But after a delay of two and a half years, right now again all types of vehicles along with goods vehicles will start plying at full 80's speed on Gandhi Setu. Departmental sources have told that the construction agency will also maintain the bridge for the next four years.

Hajipur to Patna journey will be completed in 15 to 20 minutes

According to sources, about 5.75 km long Mahatma Gandhi Setu was completed about four decades ago in the year 1983. But after the collapse of the bridge, its old structure has been demolished and a new super structure has been made from steel. The operation on the western lane has already started and now the work on the eastern lane is complete. After its commissioning, the journey from Hajipur to Patna will be completed in 15 to 20 minutes. The construction work was delayed due to Corona and many other problems. But now the government has completed it expeditiously and has made preparations to start the operation of trains on the eastern lane from June 7.

The eastern lane of the bridge was completed in about two years

After removing the old structure of Mahatma Gandhi Setu and building a new super structure, this full has become quite hi-tech. Separate arrangements have been made for those traveling by motorcycle and cycle in this bridge. Arrangements have also been made for the cabling of the bridge in Spain. Through which any kind of pipeline can be laid on it. In the year 2014, an agreement was reached for the repair of Gandhi Setu, which connects the capital Patna to North Bihar by National Highways 30 and 19. After this the reconstruction started in the year 2017. At the same time, in June 2020, after completing the work of the western lane, the operation of vehicles was started. After this the construction of the eastern side started and now preparations have been made to start the traffic on it next month.
