Death of Vineet Nayyar, former vice chairman of TechM

Vineet Nayyar, an 85-year-old former vice chairman of Tech Mahindra, died away on Thursday. He was a former government officer who later worked in corporate America and was regarded as a titan of the Indian IT sector. After working for the World Bank, he became the first chairman and MD of the state-owned energy company GAIL.

Later on, he became vice chairman of HCL Technologies and joined HCL Corporation as its MD. The head of the Mahindra Group, Anand Mahindra, said on X that Vineet was a legendary figure in Indian industry. The first Chairman of GAIL was a renowned IAS officer who worked for the World Bank. He successfully made the move to the private sector, rising to the position of Vice Chairman and MD of HCL Technologies.
