On Wednesday, October 4, Indian oil firms maintained the price of gasoline and diesel in all major cities at a nearly constant level with only slight adjustments. However, because of value-added tax (VAT), freight costs, municipal taxes, etc., they differ from state to state.
In Chhattisgarh, today’s rates for gasoline and diesel are 60 and 59 cents more expensive, respectively, when broken down by state. In Maharashtra, the cost of gasoline and diesel has gone up by around Rs. 1 from yesterday. Here, the price of gasoline and diesel has increased by 96 and 93 respectively. Additionally, the cost of gasoline and diesel has increased in Kerala, Jammu & Kashmir, Goa, and Punjab. Diesel and gasoline have both decreased in price by 28 and 30 pesis respectively in Madhya Pradesh at the same time. The price of gasoline and fuel in Uttar Pradesh is 20 paise.
At the moment, a litre of gasoline costs Rs 96.72 in Delhi, while a litre of diesel costs Rs 89.62. While in Mumbai, a litre of gasoline costs Rs 106.31 and a litre of diesel costs Rs 94.27. Diesel costs Rs 92.76 and gasoline Rs 106.03 per litre in Kolkata, respectively. On the other side, in Chennai, gasoline costs Rs 102.63 and diesel Rs 94.24 a litre.
Prices for gasoline and diesel are set in India by oil marketing companies (OMCs) such Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum. Rates are set daily, according on the global price of crude oil, and this is done on an ongoing basis.
