How Chinese individuals are finding employment via Tinder and other dating apps

According to a survey, young people in China are having difficulty finding work because of competition and a lack of chances. As a result, they are being forced to hunt for work in odd places, such as on dating applications like Tinder.

According to an NBC News study, young people are utilising dating apps like Tinder and others to get employment. According to a student, Tinder is helpful for setting up informal coffee dates with other professionals.

She said that most of her dates’ reactions are friendly.
According to a British university graduate who is now living in Beijing, “we can’t help but feel a surge of excitement when we come across someone working in the same industry, even while browsing a dating app.”
Several applications, including Tinder, are restricted on China’s mainland. Since the Microsoft-owned corporation left China in 2021, LinkedIn has also been restricted, preventing Chinese users from accessing it. Nevertheless, people may use virtual private networks (VPNs) to access it.
According to reports, some unemployed individuals are helping their parents out by working as “full-time children,” completing errands and household tasks in return for money.
To locate work, other applications are also used.
In addition to Tinder, users have reported success in landing employment on Xiaohongshu, which is China’s version of Instagram. A popular meme read, “When hiring managers ask me how I know the vacancy—me: Tinder.”

A user who claimed to have used a Chinese dating app to successfully get a job seems to have shared the message. On Chinese social media, messages claiming to favour dating applications above job search apps are not unusual, according to the research.
“Dating applications allow us to connect with more individuals. Usually, it takes a lot of time for us to get close to someone. However, using dating apps allows you to spend hours hanging out with strangers who can already give you a tonne of personal information, according to a job seeker.
