How to Pay Rs. 1,000 and Link Two Important Documents by the PAN-Aadhaar Linking Deadline Today

Finally, the extended deadline for linking PAN and Aadhaar has passed. The most recent deadline after many extensions is June 30. If you don’t connect your PAN and Aadhaar right away, your PAN will expire. Here is how to connect your PAN and Aadhaar by making a penalty payment of Rs 1,000:

How Do I Pay Rs. 1,000 and Link My Aadhaar?

Payment for tying an Aadhaar and PAN card is permitted to be received by all major Indian banks. Axis Bank, Bank of India, Bank of Maharashtra, ICICI Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, UCO Bank, and Union Bank of India are just a few of the banks.

Users may connect their Aadhaar and PAN on the Income Tax Department’s e-Filing site in both pre-login and post-login modes, whether they are registered or not.

Online linking: Go to the Income Tax e-filing website to connect your PAN and Aadhaar online. There would be a payment option available when going through the procedure to connect Aadhaar and PAN. Select AY 2023–2024 and Other Receipts (500) as the Type of Payment, then click “Continue.” The others box would already have the pre-filled value of Rs 1,000.

Offline linking: Go to the closest PAN Service Center or Aadhaar Seva Kendra to connect your PAN and Aadhaar offline.

You may also connect your PAN and Aadhaar by SMS by texting the following message to the numbers 567678 or 56161: UIDPAN is composed of a 10-digit PAN number and a 12-digit Aadhaar number.

What would happen if Aadhaar and PAN are not linked?

1. Using the invalid PAN will prevent you from filing a return.

2. No processing will be done for pending returns

3. Inactive PANs cannot receive pending reimbursements.

4 Once the PAN is inactive, ongoing processes, such as those involving faulty returns, cannot be finished.

5. As PAN becomes inactive, tax will need to be withheld at a greater rate.

Since March 31, 2022, the PAN-Aadhaar linking deadline has been postponed many times. The most recent extension is today, June 30, 2023. Aadhaar and PAN could no longer be linked beyond the initial deadline of March 31, 2022, without paying a fine of Rs 500 till June 30, 2022. Later, the punishment was raised to Rs 1,000 from July 1, 2022. The penalty amount is still the same even though the PAN-Aadhaar connecting deadline was once again extended from March 31 to June 30, 2023.

Is the PAN-Aadhaar link required?

In accordance with Section 139AA of the Income Tax Act of 1961, linking a PAN with an Aadhaar is required. To submit their income tax returns, people are now required by law to connect their PAN with Aadhaar. The current deadline to connect PAN with Aadhaar is March 31, 2023, but it has already been extended multiple times.
