ICE and electric passenger car platforms will eventually divide, as follows: Martin Uhlarik from Tata Motors

According to Tata Motors’ Global Head of Design, Martin Uhlarik, the company eventually plans to separate the platforms for its conventional engine and electric passenger cars in order to differentiate future products and do away with the challenge of creating EVs on conventional platforms.

He said that the interiors of future automobiles may become more “like a home,” led by a minimalistic approach, as sophisticated consumers desire material comfort, simplicity, and ease of use, as electrification and connection quickly gather speed.

“We predict that ICE (internal combustion engine) and EV, which is just powered by the platform, will eventually separate. According to Uhlarik, “EV will always be limited in terms of its full capability, in terms of range, and in terms of battery arrangement, if it must maintain an ICE design.

According to him, there are restrictions when converting EV on an ICE product platform, even if it has features like the standard transmission tunnel and firewall.

“So if you want to do a proper EV or do a pure EV platform, at some point you’ll have to see the products split, not just visually but eventually you’ve got to actually make it unique,” Uhlarik added.

He said that most rivals in the market are already splitting, but he would not say when Tata Motors will do the same.

Current electric vehicles from Tata Motors, such the Nexon EV, Tiago EV, and Tigor EV, are built on ICE platforms.

The business presented its brand-new electric vehicle design last year, on which it intends to launch a number of sophisticated EVs beginning in 2025.

The domestic auto giant plans to offer the AVINYA Concept, which is based on its GEN 3 architecture, in a variety of body types. In 2025, the first model built on the new architecture is anticipated to reach the market.

The business also displayed the Concept CURVV, an electric SUV with improved technology and range that would be followed by trims with internal combustion engines.

The business revealed the AVINYA concept together with the Sierra EV, all-wheel drive electric SUV Harrier, and the ICE version of the Concept CURVV at the Auto Expo earlier this year.

When asked about how passenger car design might develop in the future, Uhlarik stated: “When we look at where design is headed, we see electrification and connection, appreciation of interior materials, and a type of less automobile-like design approach, (with) extremely minimalistic interiors…

The materials used in the future of interior design will be more comfortable, simple, and easy to use, and the user interface must be highly intuitive.

“We’re going to see it become much more efficient,” he added of the exterior. Therefore, aerodynamics will be very important. Simply said, everything becomes more simpler and cleaner.
