In 2024, the Google Pixel 9 Series may have four models, including a Pixel 9 Pro Fold model

The Google Pixel 9 series is anticipated to be unveiled in October of this year, and it seems the business has some exciting things in store for the Pixel portfolio in 2024. According to recent speculations, Google may release not one, not two, but four Pixel 9 versions. Perhaps most significantly, one of them may be a foldable smartphone. That’s correct, according to a report here, Google may rebrand the Pixel Fold 2 as the Pixel 9 Pro Fold for consumers this year.

It is unclear that the new Fold will be present at Google I/O 2024 the following month; instead, it may be included in the lineup for the Pixel 9 series launch event in October. For the firm, which has only typically provided three models—including the Pixel a-series variant—having four Pixel 9 versions is a significant shift.

However, with the addition of two more models, its portfolio will grow to five items for the 2024–2025 timeframe. If Google hopes to serve this many items, it will need to step up its game, particularly in the premium space where the competition will heat up later in the year. Having said that, Google could restrict Pixel Fold’s availability to certain areas once again given that it was not widely released last year. Although the moniker Pixel 9 Pro Fold isn’t official yet, we may expect it will be soon.

LINEUP OF THE GOOGLE PIXEL 9 SERIES: WHAT ELSE DO WE KNOW?
Later this year, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is not expected to be the only device added to the portfolio. With the upcoming Pixel 9 Pro XL variant in the works, reports suggest Google may be prepared to reintroduce the Pixel XL name. The Pixel 9 Pro’s XL designation may indicate that it comes with a big 6.7- or 6.8-inch screen, matching the size of the iPhone Pro Max model.

Sales of the Pro Max indicate that there is a market for large, cumbersome phones and that some people like them; whether or not they would desire something similar from Google is another story. The Pixel 9 Pro may have a screen that is 6.1 inches in size, whereas the standard Pixel 9 is anticipated to have a 6-inch display.

As Samsung and Apple have done for many years, Google now has more freedom to increase the price difference between all three variants thanks to the Pixel 9 Pro XL. However, Google’s pricing policies have always drawn criticism, so it’s critical that the Pixel 9 Pro XL and Pixel 9 Pro Fold prices don’t prevent the majority of consumers from purchasing them.
