The institution is credited as being crucial in providing necessities including accommodation, hygienic facilities, and clean drinking water. It will act as a focal point for the distribution of crucial information and the delivery of emergency aid.

According to an official spokeswoman, it will also help with traffic management and guarantee a smooth travel and pilgrimage experience, with a particular emphasis on offering boarding and lodging facilities for needy travellers and pilgrims.

The National Disaster Mitigation Centre and Yatri Niwas are being built at Sidhra, Jammu, thanks to financing provided by the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) Limited, which was motivated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision.

Thousands of people go to Srinagar and Amarnath each year. Long-term logistical challenges have been brought on by the heavy foot traffic, particularly for the poorer pilgrims and visitors. According to the statement, the Yatri Niwas, which is supported by ONGC, would significantly address this logistical difficulty by housing 30,000 visitors annually and slowing the flow of tourists and pilgrims.

Additionally, the local populace will benefit from more people visiting these ONGC-built facilities, including unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled employees, artisans, craftsmen, daily wage workers, street sellers, and weavers.

On a 1.84-acre (8378 square metre) site, with an estimated built-up size of 1.875 acres (8500 square metres), the National Disaster Mitigation Centre and Yatri Niwas would be developed. ONGC will monitor the execution of this project via its Corporate Infrastructure Group in order to guarantee its prompt and effective completion and to keep its commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR).

ONGC has generously pledged Rs. 51 crore to fund this project as part of its extended Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) effort. This significant project, sponsored by India’s Energy Maharatna ONGC, further exemplifies the company’s unshakable dedication to serving the country, according to the spokesperson.

Arun Kumar Singh, the chairman and CEO of ONGC, as well as other dignitaries, were present at the ceremony. Senior representatives from ONGC and the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir also attended the occasion.
