iOS Users Can Now Add URLs And Web Apps To Their Home Screen Thanks To Google Chrome Update | Know What It Means

Apple just released the first public beta of iOS 17, and since iOS 16.4, the corporation has prioritized online applications. The operating system is giving developers total freedom to customize their applications, from granting third-party apps access to push alerts to enabling them to add shortcuts to the iPhone or iPad’s Home Screen. According to 9To5Mac, the famous internet browser Google Chrome recently implemented features that would let iOS and iPadOS users add their regularly used web portals on their device’s Home Screen.

According to Chris Messina, a user of Threads who created hashtags, the most recent Google Chrome upgrade for iOS now lets users add URLs and online applications to their home screen. This would reduce the effort required to launch Apple’s Safari for instant access like the previous system.

The release notice of Chrome version 115.0.5790.84, which is 157MB in size, states that “You can now add URLs or Progressive Web Apps to your home screen.” Here’s how to add your preferred online app or website to the lock screen.

Step 1: Launch your Chrome browser and open a website.

Second step: click the “Share” button.

Step 3: Select “Add to Home Screen” by searching for it and tapping on it.

iOS devices running version 16.4 or above are compatible with the functionality. The web app works like a standard app package and provides push notifications after it has been added to the lock screen.

Other than this, the most recent build offers the option to translate a portion of text using Google Translate. Simply pick the text with the mouse and long-press it to bring up the “Google Translate” menu. Additionally, users may now do online searches using the Google Lens button seen in the keyboard (with Camera permission).

Regarding online applications, Apple is testing improved web app capability in Safari on the beta version of the next macOS Sonoma operating system.
