Mark Zuckerberg provides an explanation of the present tech industry’s layoff policies

In a recent interview, Mark Zuckerberg said that the reasons tech businesses are still firing employees go beyond just correcting historical wrongdoings. Layoffs first occurred as a result of businesses hiring an excessive number of workers during the e-commerce boom. However, correcting that isn’t the only issue at hand. Businesses are starting to see the benefits of being smaller. The CEO of Meta gave his opinions in a recent podcast edition of Morning Brew Daily, which was released on Friday.

According to Zuckerberg, having fewer employees may help a firm operate more efficiently. While it was difficult to let go of brilliant employees during the first wave of layoffs, he thinks that increased efficiency is helping businesses get back on track.

In an effort to increase efficiency, Zuckerberg’s firm Meta underwent a significant workforce reduction and is getting rid of various levels of management. For example, Instagram is eliminating positions for technical program managers, and this is also occurring in other areas of Meta.

To put it another way, even in the wake of the pandemic’s difficult times, businesses are deliberately opting to reduce their size in the belief that this would improve their efficiency.

According to Zuckerberg, businesses are still mostly concerned about efficiency in the podcast. Numerous people are looking for methods to reorganize, reduce the number of management tiers, and move toward a more effective approach.

Even with their impressive profits, Google and Microsoft are still cutting staff. CEOs of companies such as Amazon have said that they want to invest and reorganize in AI-related fields. Zuckerberg believes that AI isn’t the main cause of these developments, however.

“AI wasn’t a significant factor for them in this,” the CEO of Meta explained. It started out as an overabundance of recruiting and developed into a commitment to excellence via more efficient operations.”
