Massive Data Leak: 750 million users’ personal information, including Indian information, was revealed on the dark web

In today’s digital world, data breaches and leaks are becoming more frequent, and instances are rising. After the ‘MOAB’ data breach was revealed, allegedly exposing 26 billion records, there has been a fresh revelation about a database leak. The 1.8 terabyte data dump from a “Indian Mobile Network Consumer Database” is said to include 750 million people’s personal information in it. The dark web is now selling this database.

The cybersecurity company CloudSEK revealed the same. It is impossible to exaggerate the scope of the data breach. The exposure of 750 million people’s personal data creates an unparalleled risk of identity theft and hacking. Sparsh Kulshrestha from CloudSEK said, “Telecom service providers and the government must validate the data and identify the loophole.”

“This hack highlights the vital need for businesses and individuals to prioritize cybersecurity measures and stay vigilant,” he said.

The cybersecurity company claims that this massive data breach was discovered after malicious actor “CyboDevil” put the information up for sale on a dark web marketplace. The aforementioned database includes Aadhaar details, addresses, cellphone numbers, and names that are security-sensitive. Indian user data makes about 85% of the same. Moreover, all of the main telecom carriers are impacted by the breach, according to the CloudSEK analysts.

“The data, which is for sale, poses serious threats to both people and organizations since it is compressed to 600GB and uncompressed to 1.8TB. The researchers said that the threat actor had asked about $3,000 for the whole dataset.

The researchers also noted that this breach may result in monetary loss, unwarranted worry, harm to one’s reputation, and an increase in the frequency of cybersecurity threats.
