Passenger car, SUV, and motorcycle shipments soar by 21% in FY25

Even while wholesales saw a little increase in the home market due to a larger base from the previous fiscal year, the exports in April were driven by a surge in demand for passenger cars in the foreign market.

In April 2024, there was a little increase of 1.3% in passenger car sales from April 2023 to April 2024, with 3,35,629 lakh units sold in the domestic market, according to figures from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers.

However, within the same time frame, exports rose by 21.1%. In April of this year, passenger car exports totaled 49,563 units, up from 40,940 units in the same month of the previous fiscal year. Passenger vehicles were exported in 30,268 units by Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai Motor India, Honda vehicles, Kia Motors, and Toyota Kirloskar Motor, followed by SUVs (19,022) and vans (273). The rise in foreign sales of 6,72,000 units in 2023–24, up 1.5% from 6,62,703 units in 2022–23, underscores the importance of the export revival.

Two-wheeler exports reached 320,877 units in April, up 24.3% year over year. Two-wheeler exports fell by 5.3% in 2023–2024.
