Stock Market Updates: Torrent Power Up 6%, Sensex Rallies 350 Points, Nifty At 21,600

Sensex Today: On Thursday, amid losses in other international markets, equity benchmark indexes recovered from three days of losses to move higher. The NSE Nifty50 gained 78 points to 21,600, while the BSE Sensex increased 300 points to 71,650.

Wipro, NTPC, Tata Motors, Infosys, and the Bajaj twins were the top gainers on the Sensex. On Nifty, Adani Ports emerged as the extra winner.

Conversely, the leading frontline drags were Bajaj Auto, BPCL, Maruti, and Tata Steel.

After breaking beyond the Rs 3 lakh crore mark for the first time in the December quarter, Bajaj Finance saw a roughly 4% increase in AUM.

The wider markets were also solid. There was a 0.77 percent increase in the BSE MidCap and SmallCap indexes.

Sectoral advances were driven by the Nifty Financials and IT indexes. Pharma pocket was flat, while FMCG was also strong.

Worldwide Cues

In other Asian news, trading on Japan’s Nikkei restarted with a drop of more than 1 percent after a prolonged break. The Kospi in South Korea sank 0.88 percent, the Shanghai Composite in China declined 0.55 percent, the Hang Seng in Hong Kong fell 0.4 percent, and the ASX200 in Australia fell 0.25 percent.

The broad-market S&P 500 fell 0.8% overnight, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.76 percent. 1.8% was the loss on the Nasdaq Composite.
