Sunjae Sharma: Hyatt plans to launch eight additional hotels and 1,200 more keys by 2024

This year, the hotel brand Hyatt India plans to establish eight new locations around South West Asia (SWA), including its first hotel in Bangladesh, which will open in Dhaka.

According to Sunjae Sharma, MD, India & SWA at Hyatt, in an interview with FE, the business is on pace to achieve 100 hotels in the “near future” with the latest additions, bringing its total number of hotels in the area to 55 by the end of 2024.

In the second quarter of this year, we are also relocating to Bangladesh. In the area, we have already surpassed the 10,000-room milestone. In order to align with the anticipated uptick in both leisure and business travel inside the nation and the subcontinent, we are considering a number of locations for the new hotels,” he said.

Out of the whole eight, two have already opened: one under the JdV by Hyatt brand in Goa and another under the Hyatt Place name in Haridwar at the beginning of the year. The business plans to build three Hyatt Place sites (Aurangabad and Dhaka) and two Hyatt Regency locations (Kasauli and Ghaziabad). The company plans to establish locations under its Centric brand in Ballygunge, Kolkata, and Hebbal, Bengaluru.

“We’ll keep expanding throughout the nation, with a special emphasis on health, luxury, leisure, and loyalty. Today, experiences and wellbeing are the main criteria, Sharma said.

With 49 locations in its portfolio, including two that have already opened in India (Goa and Haridwar), Hyatt is a company that works in the upmarket, higher upscale, and luxury categories. Two of its properties are in Nepal. Following the Americas and China, it has one of the biggest footprints in India.

With the inauguration of Hyatt Place Bodh Gaya, Hyatt Place Vijayawada, Hyatt Place Goa Candolim, and Hyatt Centric Rajpur Road Dehradun in 2023, Hyatt increased its presence in India.

Regarding sustainability, Grand Hyatt Mumbai uses windmills to produce electricity, and Hyatt has its own water bottling operations and facilities that collect rainfall.
