Uday Kotak, who founded the fourth-largest private sector bank in India, will become a non-executive board member once he leaves his position as Manager Director of Kotak Mahindra Bank. Kotak said that the alignment and dedication of the shareholders, board, and management would assist the bank to navigate in the future in his last letter to shareholders as managing director on Saturday.

“I see my role as a non-executive board governance member and a strategic shareholder with a long-term perspective of nurturing a world-class institution,” Kotak said in his letter.

In December of this year, the billionaire’s position as managing director of Kotak Mahindra Bank would come to an end. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had previously set the term of bank chief executives at 15 years, and promoter chief executives at 12 years. KVS Manian, the bank’s head of corporate banking, and Shanti Ekambaram, the head of retail banking, are said to be in competition for the position even though the firm has appointed Egon Zehnder to undertake a worldwide search for a chief executive officer.
