28 Years Later: The Zombie Thriller’s Final Release Date, Story, and Stars Are Confirmed

A release date has finally been announced for the much-awaited movie 28 Years Later. Releasing in cinemas in June of next year, the film was officially announced by Sony on Friday. With Danny Boyle directing, who won praise for his work on the first 28 Days Later, this film promises to be an exciting continuation of the successful series that made its debut in 2002. Boyle, who is directing the film again, will be working from a screenplay written by Alex Garland, who is the brains behind the narrative of 28 Days Later. Peter Rice and Bernie Bellew are joining them on the project, and they promise a picture that keeps loyal to its history while still providing fans with something fresh and thrilling.

The ensemble of 28 Years Later has a stellar group of actors, including Ralph Fiennes, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Jodie Comer. Although the premise is yet unknown, Sony has referred to the movie as a direct sequel to 28 Days Later, implying that the exciting story that started with Jim (Cillian Murphy) waking up to find his world destroyed and overrun by a deadly virus would continue.

The series began with the 2002 release of 28 Days Later, which featured Jim, a bicycle courier who awakens from a coma to see civilization destroyed by a virus that causes violence. The zombie horror genre was given new life by the film, which also starred Naomie Harris, Christopher Eccleston, Megan Burns, and Brendan Gleeson. This led to the release of a sequel, 28 Weeks Later, in 2007.

Following the events of the previous movie, 28 Weeks Later focused on attempts to create a safe zone in London. The sequel, which starred Rose Byrne, Jeremy Renner, Imogen Poots, and Idris Elba, among others, was a financial and critical success.

“A few years ago, an idea materialized in my head for what would be a really compelling ’28 Years Later,'” Garland said while speaking about the project and expressing his excitement for the movie. Danny has always found the concept appealing. Thus, we are having a serious and in-depth conversation about it. Comicbook claims that “if we can execute a similarly good idea, I’ll be well up for it if he doesn’t want to direct it himself.”

28 Years Later, which is scheduled for release on June 20, 2025, is predicted to rekindle fans’ enthusiasm and suspense for the series and keep viewers on the edge of their seats.
