A third ‘Downton Abbey’ film is in development, with Paul Giamatti returning to the title character

Fans of “Downton Abbey,” rejoice! A new installment of the popular historical drama series, produced by Carnival Films and Focus Features, is slated to hit theaters in the near future.

The Hollywood Reporter claims that after the previous films’ box office success, the newest installment is expected to provide yet another engrossing story written by the series’ creator, Julian Fellowes.

‘Downton Abbey: A New Era’ director Simon Curtis is back to lead the project after he led it to critical acclaim in 2022.

He is joined by well-known characters from the film adaptations as well as the original TV show, such as Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern, and Michelle Dockery.

Notably, after receiving an Oscar nomination for his work in “The Holdovers,” Paul Giamatti is returning to the role of Harold Levinson, Cora Grantham’s brother.

Joely Richardson, Alessandro Nivola, Simon Russell Beale, and Arty Froushan, who are set to provide new insights to the cherished story, are joining him.

Other beloved characters, like those played by Phyllis Logan, Jim Carter, and Laura Carmichael, will make a comeback in the most recent movie.

Additionally, Dominic West will return to the character of Guy Dexter from “Downton Abbey: A New Era,” the previous installment.

Alongside Liz Trubridge and Gareth Neame, Fellowes will produce behind the scenes, guaranteeing the continuation of the franchise’s renowned attention to detail and storyline.

The most recent installment of the series, “Downton Abbey: A New Era,” made USD 92 million worldwide and USD 44 million domestically at the box office. This victory comes after the original film adaptation did a fantastic job earning USD 194.6 million globally, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
