After the ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ set accident, Hansal Mehta talks about why he decided to stay away from his son Jai Mehta

Filmmaker Hansal Mehta spoke about a traumatic event that happened to his son Jai Mehta when he was filming Anurag Kashyap’s “Gangs of Wasseypur.” Hansal did not summon his son back to the set, even though he was called back many times, valuing his resilience throughout the ordeal.
Filmmaker Hansal Mehta reminisced about his son Jai Mehta’s early days as an assistant on the set of “Gangs of Wasseypur” during a talk on Creator x Creator.

Hansal thought back on the difficulties they had at the time and related a painful event that happened during the filming when a fellow assistant sadly died in an accident. This was Jai’s first film business experience, coming before his directing debut in “Scam 1992” and his most recent webseries, “Lootere.”
Hansal questioned Jai during their discussion about whether or not he even remembers the chat he had with Anurag after the death of one of his first ADs in an accident. One of Jai’s roommates was the young AD, who died away. Hansal went on to explain how Jai had called him after the youngster had fallen and Jai was accompanying him to the hospital. Anurag had also called Hansal Mehta at that time to apprise him of Jai’s mental state. “Jai is traumatised, he is crying, and he is in a very bad shape,” Anurag contacted me, Hansal Mehta said, speaking with his son Jai Mehta.
But Anurag offered a different strategy that changed Hansal’s understanding of the emotionally taxing situation. “”Sir, he will stay a boy if you call him back home; if you let him stay here, he will become a man,” Anurag remarked. We are all here, and we will take care of him.
“It was a challenging moment for me as a father because you were consistently reaching out to me, expressing your desire to return, and I began avoiding you,” Hansal said.
Hansal said that, prior to his participation in Gangs of Wasseypur, he had set up a meeting between Jai and Karan Johar to discuss possible collaboration on Kajol-Kareena Kapoor’s “We Are Family.” Nevertheless, Jai chose to work with Anurag since he had just seen “Dev D.”
