‘Definitely’, Cillian Murphy Will Be Back for the Peaky Blinders Film

The story of mobster Tommy Shelby seems to be far from over. During the premiere of his current BBC drama, The Town, Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight announced to Birmingham World that Cillian Murphy would play the same famous role in the next movie. Murphy is “definitely” coming back, Knight reassured fans, and shooting is expected to begin in September in Birmingham, UK.

Murphy’s decision to reprise his part as Tommy Shelby in the movie adaptation is hardly shocking, given his track record of only doing so when the screenplay satisfies him. After premiering on the BBC in 2013, the program was well-received worldwide when it was released on Netflix. Though the show ends in April 2022, Steven Knight, the show’s creator, has said time and time again how excited he is to carry on Tommy’s tale.

Although Knight is adamant on making Peaky Blinders a movie, he hasn’t said if Murphy would play the head of the Birmingham gang again. The director said, “He is definitely coming back for it,” on the red carpet for his newest picture. We’re filming it in September in Digbeth, just next door.

Knight had said in an earlier interview with Esquire, “I know exactly what the film is about.” Additionally, I am aware of the two tales it will tell. I’m not sure how the narrative will turn out. I want the film to determine what will happen next. We never know who may emerge, but I believe I know who it will be.

Cillian Murphy previously said that, under certain circumstances, he would be interested in playing Tommy Shelby in another Peaky Blinders film in an interview with Rolling Stones UK last year. If there was more to the tale, he said, he would love to share it, but it needs to have significance. Murphy complimented Steven Knight, the showrunner, noting that he crafted 36 hours of television and brought the series to a successful conclusion.

In July 2022, Steven Knight first disclosed that he was working on a screenplay for the movie and that he intended to film the series in places like Digbeth and Small Heath, which are where the genuine Peaky Blinders used to operate. Fans are excited to see Tommy Shelby’s historic journey come to an end now that the news of filming has been verified.
