Dia Mirza: I’d Rather Act Part-Time

Dia Mirza claims she wanted to be a “part-time actor” so she could focus more of her energies on environmental and conservation concerns.

The performer, who serves as a Goodwill Ambassador for the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), said she felt a duty to improve the globe.

“I just mentioned my part-time acting career to the head of UNEP in India. I devote the majority of my time and effort to environmental and conservation causes around the nation.

“I do it because I feel accountable and under pressure. In an interview with PTI, Mirza said, “I believe that the only way I can protect my children’s present and future is if I contribute to solutions that make a difference.

The 41-year-old gave a keynote address on sustainable living on Saturday night at the three-day “Nature in Focus 2023” environment and wildlife festival, which was held in Bengaluru from July 28 to July 30.

But Mirza, who is well-known for movies like “Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein,” “Parineeta,” and “Bheed,” concurs that movies can be an effective tool for bringing about societal change.

The actor said, “I think conservation efforts in cinema can be far reaching,” using the Oscar-winning documentary short “The Elephant Whisperers” as an example. The narrative medium is the best one for bringing about change.

Through her endeavours in cinema and photography, Mirza said she wanted to support conservation initiatives and promote activism. The former Miss Asia Pacific International said that “Kids for Tiger” is the title of her first feature.

It happened about eight years ago. Actually, Cara Tejpal and Sahil Sangha had composed a poem. It is accessible on YouTube and is open for free viewing. Kids are essentially explaining why the tiger is a symbol for all of nature. I really like leading the kids,” she remarked.

Mirza said that even without a great tale that seamlessly incorporates conservation activities into its plot, filmmakers may still make a difference.

“The way we tell stories can also be a big contributor to that change,” she added. “By just improving sustainable practices in the process of filmmaking.”

The actor, who was born in Hyderabad, also spoke in favor of applying sustainability in real life.

“We make an effort to be sustainable whenever we manufacture. The fact that such values are now developing makes me happy. It has now spread far and wide. Filmmakers are increasingly opting to create sustainable works, Mirza said.

She spoke at the event on the long-term effects that human decisions have on the ecosystem.

“You may be a part of any profession. Anyone might be you. But the first and most crucial realization is that we are earth citizens. and we can each make a difference by doing our part.

Mirza praised the prize-winning photographers’ works, which were on show during the three-day event and said that they each contributed to the cause of conservation via photography.

She emphasized once again that making wise decisions in day-to-day life might also bring about transformation.

In a way, everyone of us is a changemaker and is capable of bringing about the change that the world needs, Mirza said.

The actress said she is anticipating the release of “Dhak Dhak,” a Taapsee Pannu and a Prime Video movie, when asked about her next film ventures.

“Dhak Dhak, a gorgeous movie I have coming out later this year. It is unique since it has a female protagonist. It is about four extraordinary ladies who decide to go by bike from Delhi to Khardung La. I am eagerly anticipating its debut and am thrilled about it. Additionally, something will be debuting on Amazon shortly, she said.
