Donnie Yen appears in a spinoff of “John Wick”

May 16, Los Angeles, California: The ‘John Wick’ series is growing. A new spinoff will revolve around Donnie Yen’s blind assassin Caine, who made his debut in ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’ last year.

The sequel will “continue Yen’s story arc following the events of ‘John Wick: Chapter 4,’ as Caine has been freed from his obligations to the High Table,” according to Variety.

The script is being written by Robert Askins, who has written for Netflix’s “The Umbrella Academy,” AMC’s “The Son,” and was nominated for a 2015 Tony for his play “Hand to God.”

“John Wick” director Chad Stahelski’s development pact with Lionsgate to supervise the action franchise is what’s being used to produce the Caine spinoff. Stahelski, Basil Iwanyk of Thunder Road, and Erica Lee will produce via their company, 87Eleven Entertainment.

Yen said, “Working on ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’ was an extraordinary experience,” in reference to being a part of the series. These movies speak to me so much because, like me, Chad, Basil, and Erica strive to make action, fight scenes, and stunts that are exciting, creative, and artistic, as well as expressive of character, narrative, and emotion. I’m thrilled to take on the part again since Caine is a fantastic character with a troubled background.”

In the “John Wick” world, “Ballerina,” starring Ana de Armas, is the following chapter. It takes place after de Armas’s Ruksa Roma assassination and was postponed from this summer to June 6, 2025.
