Grammy 2024: Rupali Ganguly of Anupamaa Gives A Shoutout To Shankar Mahadevan And Zakir Hussain

With their most recent album, This Moment, the reformed Shakti band won the coveted Grammy Award in the Best Global Music Album category. Eight brand-new songs written by Shankar Mahadevan, Zakir Hussain, John McLaughlin, V Selvaganesh, and Ganesh Rajagopalan commemorate the album’s return after more than 45 years.

People have been wishing the band members well from all across the globe since the success. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and music legend A R Rahman are just two of the well-known people who have praised Shakti for her achievement. Rupali Ganguly, renowned for Anupamaa, also sent her sincere congrats to Shankar Mahadevan and Zakir Hussani’s fusion band.

Rupali posted a photo of the Grammy winners from the stage on her Instagram Story. The well-known TV personality wished and praised the great performers. “Congratulations to @shankar.mahadevan and @zakirhq9 on their Grammy Award win for Best Global Music Album,” she wrote. Definitely a well-earned triumph.

PM Modi had earlier praised the musicians’ commitment and said the nation is proud of them. “Congratulations @Rakeshflute, @Shankar_Live, @kanjeeraselva, @violinganesh, and @ZakirHtabla on your incredible success at the #GRAMMYs!” he posted. Your extraordinary gift and commitment to music have won hearts all across the globe. India is happy! These accomplishments are evidence of your ongoing hard work. Jazz and Indian classical music are combined in the innovative fusion group Shakti, which features Zakir Hussain on tabla and Shankar Mahadevan on vocals. At the Grammy Awards, it defied performers like Susana Baca, Bokante, Burna Boy, and Davido to take the top slot. In 2023, the album This Moment was published.

John McLaughlin, a jazz guitarist, established Shakti in 1973 with the help of traditional Indian musicians. After splitting up in 1978, the original members pursued individual careers for 20 years. The band was reconstituted in the late 1990s with Selvaganesh Vinayakram, John McLaughlin, U Srinivas, Shankar Mahadevan, and Zakir Hussain.

In 1976, Shakti released a number of successful albums, including Shakti and A Handful of Beauty, and in 1977, Natural Elements. In 2023, the band celebrated their 50th anniversary by touring 27 locations in a huge manner. Featuring exceptional solo opening sets by well-known performers including Béla Fleck, Bill Frisell, Jerry Douglas, and John Scofield, the tour played 17 shows around the United States.
