Up to 30 Hindu activists were arrested on Wednesday for engaging in acts of violence and making an effort to obstruct the showing of the Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone movie Pathaan at theaters in this Karnataka region.
The movie's posters were ripped by the Hindu activists when they invaded the Swaroopa and Narthaki cinemas. They tore down banners and denounced the movie's release despite the boycott demand. The spaces around the theaters have been made more secure.
A complaint against 30 Hindu activists has been filed by Khadebazar police in Belagavi, and a few have been taken into custody.
A unit of the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) has also been stationed by the police force close to theaters. BJP MLA for Belagavi South Abhay Patil advised viewers to cease seeing the film and denounced its distribution.
"They need to respect people's sensitivities and halt the film's showing. The publication of such films will damage society's environment. Today is the start of the protest. The distributor must cease showings since women are protesting the movie's distribution, he added.
Pathaan has been vetted without incident in various areas, including the state's capital Bengaluru, and has been released across that state.
