Irrfan Khan desired to direct a program since he was sick of doing TV: Sutapa Sikdar

Irrfan Khan’s late wife, Sutapa Sikdar, a writer, told us that her husband was sick of doing TV roles and wanted to try his hand at directing. Actually, more than 20 years ago, Sutapa was penning a television series called Janam Samjha Karo, which Irrfan was meant to direct.

However, the project was shelved.
According to Sutapa, the program was dubbed “pathbreaking” during the channel celebration in Delhi and was based on the narrative of four couples who became pregnant together. The program was commissioned by the channel, and we were flown down for the occasion. A month later, we learned that the channel had changed its approach after the tremendous success of another program with a traditional plot. That was the pivotal moment in my career as a writer, and I made the decision to give up on television. I discovered that creating stereotypes as opposed to characters generates TRPs.
She continues, “Irrfan got tired of acting in TV shows and decided to direct a show himself.” This is in reference to how Irrfan was brought in to direct the program.
