‘Jaane Jaan’ by Kareena Kapoor Khan surpasses 20 million views on Netflix and wins over ‘Jawan’ by Shah Rukh Khan

“Jaane Jana,” Kareena Kapoor’s over-the-top film debut, has broken a new record on Netflix. Her film garnered more views than Shah Rukh Khan’s “Jawan.” Netflix released a report on the most-viewed series during the second half of the previous year on Thursday. According to companies’ streaming statistics from July to December 2023, Kareena Kapoor’s films “Jaane Jaan” and “The Railway Men” have amassed over 1 billion views worldwide.

The captivating criminal thriller “Jaane Jaan” by Sujoy Ghosh has garnered 20.2 million views on Netflix India, making it the most watched movie globally, according to the most recent statistics. Interestingly, it also ranked 83rd out of all the titles that people viewed worldwide. This film, which included well-known actors like Vijay Varma and Jaideep Ahlawat, was Kareena Kapoor’s first on an OTT platform. Atlee’s fast-paced action thriller “Jawan,” which had 16.2 million views and ranked 120th worldwide, comes in second. It’s interesting to note that it became available on Netflix India soon after being the highest-grossing Indian picture of the year and ruling the box office. “Jawan,” starring Vijay Sethupathi, Nayanthara, and Shah Rukh Khan, gripped audiences from start to finish.

Vishal Bhardwaj made his digital debut with the espionage thriller “Khufiya,” which starred Tabu, Ali Fazal, and Wamiqa Gabbi, among other talented actors. In spite of conflicting reviews, the movie received 12.1 million views worldwide and came in at 194th place. At position 218, Amit Rai’s provocative courtroom drama “OMG 2” had 11.5 million views, making it a close second. This film, which starred Pankaj Tripathi, Yami Gautam, and Akshay Kumar in critically praised roles, addressed the touchy subject of sex education in schools.

The “Lust Stories 2” anthology included intriguing short films with an ensemble cast that included Neena Gupta, Mrunal Thakur, and Kajol and was directed by well-known directors. The segment “The Mirror” by Konkona Sen Sharma garnered a lot of praise, which helped it rank 312th with 9.2 million views. The hilarious comedy “Dream Girl 2,” directed by Raaj Shaandilyaa and the follow-up to the 2019 smash blockbuster, delighted audiences and made over ₹140 crore at the worldwide box office. It had 8.2 million views on Netflix when it was first released, placing it in 361st place.

With a compelling true crime story, “Curry & Cyanide: The Jolly Joseph Case” rounded out the top 400 titles in the documentary genre. Turning now to television, the most-watched Netflix India Original worldwide was Shiv Rawail’s moving historical drama on the Bhopal Gas Disaster. With 10.6 million views, the film starring Kay Kay Menon and R. Madhavan secured the 139th position.

“Sudip Sharma’s gritty criminal thriller “Kohrra,” starring Barun Sobti and Suvinder Vicky, came in 267th place with 6.4 million views. Together with “Kohrra,” Raj & DK’s historical comedy “Guns & Gulaabs” had an ensemble cast that included Dulquer Salmaan and Rajkummar Rao. Last but not least, with 5.8 million views, Sameer Saxena’s gripping survival thriller “Kaala Paani,” starring Vikas Kumar and Mona Singh, took 307th place.
