Met Gala 2024: More than 10,000 hours went into creating Isha Ambani’s hand-embroidered sari gown

Met Gala 2024: Wearing a classic custom sari gown by couturier Rahul Mishra, Isha Ambani radiates the charm of floral beauty.

Designed by prominent celebrity stylists Rahul and Anaita Shroff Adajania, the hand-embroidered outfit honors the official Met Gala 2024 dress code, “The Garden of Time.”

Isha’s sophisticated ensemble with a nature theme was shown on Anaita’s Instagram account before her appearance at the 2024 Costume Institute show, Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion in New York, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The masterwork, which honors India’s craftsmen and craftswomen, also signifies Rahul Mishra’s arrival at the esteemed Met Gala in 2024. Anaita, who has previously dressed celebrities like Alia Bhatt and Natasha Poonawalla for the Met Gala, went to Instagram to provide a thorough explanation of this legendary work of art that features Isha Ambani.

“Our temporal garden. Isha is dressed in a custom-made couture sari gown by Indian designer Rahul Mishra, which is hand-embroidered. In this unique design for Isha, which took over 10,000 hours to construct, Rahul and I set out to reflect nature’s wonderful and plentiful lifecycle for this year’s Met Gala theme of “The Garden of Time,” says Anaita.

The outfit, which embraced sustainability, had elaborate details from Rahul’s previous collections. The pattern features delicate examples of flowers, butterflies, and dragonflies that were painstakingly incorporated from the archives using a variety of appliqué and embroidery methods, including French knots, fareesha, zardozi, nakshi, and dabka. When taken as a whole, these components convey a powerful story about the condition of the earth and a message of renewal and hope. “Hundreds of local craftspeople and weavers were supported by the exquisite look, which was painstakingly hand-embroidered at Rahul Mishra’s ateliers across several Indian villages,” continues Anaita.

Isha accessorized her outfit with a handbag that Swadesh created with miniature painting and nakashi, two traditional Indian art techniques. The gorgeous Jade clutch bag has an Indian miniature painting on it, made by Jaipur artist Hari Narain Marotia. Indian miniature painting is a centuries-old traditional art style. The artwork, which features the Mayura, India’s national bird, is incredibly realistic and evocative, despite its tiny size.

Her traditional jewelry, which included parrot earrings, a flower choker by Viren Bhagat, and lotus hand bracelets, popularly called haath pochas, enhanced her perfect style quotient. Tanvi Chemburkar and Yianni Tsaptori did Isha’s cosmetics and hair.

“We always wanted to make India a global force,” Anaita continues.
