Nicholas Galitzine, The Idea of You Star, Will Play He-Man in the Live-Action Film Masters of the Universe

The Idea of You and Red White & Royal Blue star Nicholas Galitzine will portray He-Man in the forthcoming live-action movie Masters of the Universe. The movie is based on the well-known Mattel toy brand, which gave rise to both a 1987 movie and a popular animated TV show. The picture will be released in theaters globally on June 5, 2026, thanks to the collaboration of Mattel Films and Amazon MGM Studios.

What is the purpose of the Masters of the Universe?
The protagonist of the tale is the warrior He-Man, who represents the last chance for the mystical nation of Eternia. According to the stated narrative, the film would supposedly introduce 10-year-old Prince Adam, who fell to Earth in a spacecraft and was separated from his mystical Power Sword, the sole connection to his home planet Eternia.

In the first film, Frank Langella portrayed the evil Skeleto, while Dolph Lundgren played the film’s main role. The film is being directed by Travis Knight, who is most renowned for his work on Kubo and the Two Strings and Bumblebee. Chris Butler wrote the script, with early drafts contributed by David Callaham, Aaron, and Adam Nee.

We are ecstatic to introduce Nicholas Galitzine as our He-Man, and we are happy to be bringing the cherished Masters of the Universe to life. Head of film production and development at Amazon MGM Studios, Julie Rapaport, said, “Julieping forces with director Travis Knight, Mattel, and Escape Artists, this reintroduction of the character and his universe will be an epic film that will delight audiences from here to Eternia.”

Masters of the Universe will relaunch on Amazon.com
Robbie Brenner of Mattel Films and Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, and Steve Tisch of Escape Artists will produce Masters of the Universe. Netflix had previously been working on the project, but in July of this year, the streaming provider decided to discontinue it. The production, which starred Kyle Allen as Prince Adam, nicknamed He-Man, was allegedly developed over two years at a cost close to USD 30 million by the streamer.
