Pawan Singh declares his departure from the BJP roster

Pawan Singh, a Bhojpuri actor and playback singer, said on his official X Twitter today that he would not be running for the Asansol Lok Sabha constituency, one day after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) officially announced his candidacy. Today’s state politics are quite agitated as a result of this tragedy.

Also retweeting Singh’s message was TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, who wrote, “The indomitable spirit and power of the people of West Bengal.” Pm. Narendra Modi of Varanasi was among the 195 candidates included on the BJP’s first list of candidates for the Lok Sabha, which was released yesterday. Although Pawan Singh, a playback singer and actor from Bhojpur, was an unexpected selection, the saffron brigade had him competing against another “Bihari babu,” Shatrughan Sinha of the Trinamul Congress, for the coveted Asansol Lok Sabha seat. Babul Supriyo, a former Asansol MP and Union minister, and Sagarika Ghosh of the TMC both made comments regarding Pawan Singh’s remarks that he has no respect for Bengali women yesterday on their X handles.

“I’ve never heard of Pawan Singh and don’t know him, but I’m glad he’s running for Asansol elections. I’m not sure why he withdrew his name either. In the next Lok Sabha elections, I personally believe that the BJP would not be able to win 200 seats,” said Shatrughan Sinha, a current Asansol MP and former Union minister. Since Jitendra Tiwari, the previous mayor of Asansol Municipal Corporation (AMC), is the front-runner for the BJP ticket, speculation is widespread that the saffron party would attempt to field a “son of the soil,” or bhoomiputra, in Asansol rather than foreigners. Over thirty percent of Asansol’s population is non-Bengali, and this sizable voting bloc is crucial and may make a difference in the Lok Sabha elections.

Pawan Singh announced via Twitter that he was quitting for personal reasons. The BJP has not yet made any formal remarks on this matter. In his statement on his X account, Singh mentioned J.P. Nadda, the national head of the BJP. Actor Satrughan Sinha had won the 2022 by-elections with a margin of more than three lakhs. Additionally, he has already begun his campaign for the polls, and wall graffiti has appeared in each of the seven constituencies.

CM Mamata Banerjee also assigned distinct tasks to each of the West Bengal’s heavyweight local leadership at their meeting a few days ago in Durgapur.
