Priyanka Chopra claims that when Nick Jonas initially texted: "Didn't want to interact as much," she was already in a "tumultuous" relationship

Actress Priyanka Chopra recently disclosed that in 2016, when she was already in a troubled relationship, her husband, musician Nick Jonas, approached her. Without giving away the identity of her ex, Priyanka said that she originally found it difficult to communicate with Nick because of their disparate ages—she was 35 and the vocalist for Close was 25.

In 2016, after exchanging phone numbers after texting Priyanka Chopra Jonas on Twitter, the two began corresponding. They originally met at the Met Gala in 2017, and started dating in May 2018. They got engaged two months later, and on December 1, 2018, they were married. Via surrogacy, they had their daughter Malti Marie Chopra Jonas in January 2022.

Contrary to the popular misconception that she just became engaged to her husband after getting to know him for two months, Priyanka addressed her condition while speaking about Nick. He (Nick) sneaked into my Twitter DMs, she said in a recent interview with Dax Shepherd for his podcast Armchair Expert. At the time, my relationship was troubled. In 2016, our mutual acquaintances disliked the fact that I was still in my [prior] relationship. Someone said, "Well, he's also single." While he is not truly with that female, That was challenging for both of us. Even though our friends suggested that you two get together, it never happened. Kevin Jonas, his brother, adored Quantico. I'm really happy since he advised Nick to contact her while directing me in the direction of a billboard. My social team will merely see these messages, so why didn't Nick text me instead? He (Nick) had a couple people telling him to call her, so he did. You simply want to give me your number, right?' he said. I sort of did, but I didn't want to confess it because I was in a relationship at the time.

Priyanka was afterwards questioned whether she had a serious monogamous nature, which she acknowledged. "Well, I did have really committed relationships that lasted for 6 to 5 years on average, but they were back-to-back." She said, "I was coming to the end of my previous lengthy relationship before Nick when he contacted me in 2016 and slipped into my DM and we began conversing. At the moment, I didn't want to participate as much. He was 25 and I was around 35. I kind of put a stop to it since I tend to judge a book by its cover. I said, "I want to get married. I had participated in the enjoyable days there. I wasn't aware that my spouse was truly a sweet old guy trapped in a 25-year-body old's when I was about to get serious.

Priyanka said that she and Nick spoke for two years through sporadic messages and other means. They first ran into one other at the Met Gala, when they were both dressed in Ralph Lauren. She also spoke about how much fun they had and how Nick even continued to assist her with the outfit, which became the topic of conversation for the evening.
