Review of the film Bloody Daddy Everything in this Shahid Kapoor-starring film is undercooked

We are given a half-baked and boring Bloody Daddy while well-made crime dramas and films focused on drug mafias have been keeping us engaged on the big screen and on streaming platforms. This Ali Abbas Zafar-directed film makes you wonder if he rushed to make it, write it, edit it, and release it, basically faltering in every aspect of filmmaking, starting with sketchy characters with absolutely no back stories, a wafer-thin plot, a screenplay that unfolds like a scattered puzzle piece, and a climax that takes no NASA brains to decode.www.theindiaprint.com review of the film bloody daddy everything in this shahid kapoor starring film is undercooked 898304260 shahid kapoor suits formals fashion 1 11zon 1

The movie, which is a remake of the 2011 French film Sleepless Night, includes subpar action sequences, middling language, and undeveloped characters who need much more depth and nuance to have an impression. Shahid Kapoor’s heroic on-screen presence is the only thing that works, but sadly, he also performs poorly this time around as an actor. Perhaps it has something to do with the furious guys he has chosen to portray recently. We’ve seen him pick fights, drink too much, act eccentrically, and be too brooding, after all. We’ve seen enough of Kabir Singh’s wild side, and we also had a peek of it in Jersey and Farzi. It wasn’t really appealing to witness Shahid do the same behaviour over and over again in Bloody Daddy.www.theindiaprint.com review of the film bloody daddy everything in this shahid kapoor starring film is undercooked images 2023 06 09t113712.112 11zon 1

Bloody Daddy tells the tale of NCB officer Sumair Azad (Shahid Kapoor), who visits drug lord Sikander Choudhary (Ronit Bose Roy) at his club one night to deliver a bag of cocaine in exchange for the drug lord’s abducted adolescent son. However, things don’t go according to plan, and a “bloody” brawl results. Sumair and his colleague Jaggi (Zeishan Quadri) bust drug traffickers one morning, capturing 50 crore worth of cocaine in the process. Sumair is unaware that he is being mistreated at many levels inside NCB even though he manages to get the bag from the office in order to keep his kid safe. With his coworkers Aditi Rawat (Diana Penty) and senior Sameer Singh (Rajeev Khandelwal), he eventually gets into conflicts. Prior to the climax, everything become evident and it’s easy to predict how the story will conclude once everyone becomes a suspect at one time.www.theindiaprint.com review of the film bloody daddy everything in this shahid kapoor starring film is undercooked bloody daddy 1200 11zon 1

It has a two-hour length and is fast-paced and well-edited, but it never goes beyond just a chase and battle between cats and mice. The action thriller that Zafar, Aditya Basu, and Siddharth-Garima co-wrote starts out well before quickly degenerating into a dull series of developments that doesn’t provide an exciting rush.

The film commences with several warnings about the first lockdown, the second wave taking lives, people being made unemployed, the rise in crime rate prior to the third wave, and everyone becoming used to the new normal given that the movie was made in 36 days during the Covid-19 epidemic. And I anticipated that Zafar would base the plot on these lines. However, aside from a few flimsy scenes in which people are disguised, visitors to a high-profile wedding are subjected to intrusive testing, and criminals discuss how the pandemic has destroyed their hotel and drug business and how they must revive it, I see nothing of this translating into the actual script.www.theindiaprint.com review of the film bloody daddy everything in this shahid kapoor starring film is undercooked shahid kapoor in bloody daddy 152 11zon

For once, I believed that the casting, if not the storyline, would make a difference. Unfortunately, every actor has been forced to seem like a sidekick, and none has had the opportunity to display their acting skills to the fullest. Ronit Roy, who is delightful to watch on film, isn’t sure if she wants to be a good or terrible policeman. In action scenes, Rajeev Khandelwal struggles and never comes off as believable enough. After playing a stylized villain, Sanjay Kapoor appears just to go without a trace. Although they had very little to do, Ankur Bhatia and Vivaan Bhatena do well as the antagonists. Diana Penty is attempting to hold her place in this male-dominated group, but she really isn’t that awful. She keeps a serene balance and doesn’t overdo it. Atharva, the little child who portrays Shahid’s on-screen son, is really pretty talented and novel.

Bloody Daddy’s greatest joke is right there in the title. Following every action scene, Shahid and Rajeev’s characters are covered in blood stains, yet the next second, everything is gone. They just pick up where they left off in the battle, with no signs of blood on their faces or clothing. In fact, it’s challenging to tolerate such poor continuity gaps.

Overall, Bloody Daddy succumbs to its own clichés and stereotypes, yet it can keep you interested only for the pleasure of seeing Shahid do action and stunts on television. Jio Cinemas is now streaming the movie.
