“Sam Bahadur,” According to Vicky Kaushal in a BTS clip, is my most meticulously detailed work

A behind-the-scenes (BTS) montage of the filming of Vicky Kaushal’s forthcoming biography, Sam Bahadur, featuring Bollywood actor, has been released.

The actor said in the video that the movie was maybe the most painstakingly filmed project he has ever worked on since he had never had to go through so many look tests to make sure the medals, face, and outfit were all shown correctly.

The “Sardar Udham” actor was spotted leaving a real cantonment in Punjab after filming with real military soldiers. He then said that the movie’s concept has been in development since 2019.

“I believe that is what started the whole thing,” the actor stated. “Meghna and I discussed ‘Sam Bahadur’ first in 2019 where we usually used to meet for 5–6 hours simply discussing the whole project.”

He remarked, “This movie was shot with much meticulous attention to detail because Meghna was very particular about every single frame,” citing the extensive preparation work required for historical accuracy. She was determined to earn every medal. I don’t believe I’ve had to endure as many look testing in order to get the desired appearance. We are happy with how it came out, despite the tremendous amount of prep work.

Director Meghna Gulzar explained why so extensive and painstakingly precise work was needed for just appearances, saying, “I think the level of detailing for prep work required that much more because of the nature of the film.” The Indian Army is the first, and Sam Manekshaw is the second.

The famed Field Marshal’s wife Silloo Manekshaw is portrayed by actress Sanya Malhotra, who said on her first day on the set, “I was completely blown away when I saw him (Vicky).” All I could see was him and Sam (Manekshaw), with no sign of Vicky.

Colonel Manish Sarin, the team’s military adviser, commented on the outstanding preparations, saying, “Throughout the entire movie, I discovered that he (Vicky) had really done his homework so well, he’s studied the mannerisms, the way of talking, of conducting himself in a military fashion.” More significantly, I believe Vicky was the only one who could have done the role justice.

According to Vicky, this was the longest filming schedule he has ever had to endure. We would spend ten to fifteen days on set in order for this to occur. Typically, there would be a 20-minute break during which I had to prepare extensively to pick up new skills. These mostly comprised boxing and high jumping,” the actor said.

“High jump has evolved as a sport a lot since then, but back then it was a scissor jump,” the actor remarked, demonstrating the enormous amount of work required to do justice to the whole military routine. Although it seems more straightforward and uncomplicated, it is not.

This shows him working out in advance to build leg strength for the leap as well as repeatedly jumping over hoops to get the ideal jump.

The “Uri” actor received boxing instruction from real soldiers and learned how to conduct oneself in a correct military way. Despite being hurt during the boxing sessions, he persevered and did not give up.

“Vicky has given away his soul, every molecule of himself for this role,” Meghna said in her final comments. I believe that the moment he set foot on the set, he ceased to be Vicky Kaushal. And I’m not simply referring about looking well in your uniform, mustache, or contacts. I believe that day he just became Sam Manekshaw.

Sam Manekshaw is the subject of the biographical film, which describes his early years as a young officer following his graduation from the Indian Military Academy during the British era, his combat experiences in World War 2, his role in the first India-Pakistan war following independence, his involvement in the Indo-Sino war of 1962, the India-Pakistan war of 1965, the India-China skirmish of 1967, and the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War, also known as the third India-Pakistan war.
