Rajkummar Hirani was seeking for a female who had a Punjabi heritage and would be perfect for the part. Salman even gave Priyanka a clue about having something special for her during the performance.

The Bollywood Life article said, "The part is brief but will have an impression on you. The film's plot is on Punjabis who immigrate illegally to nations like Canada and the USA. The name Dunki means "Donkey Flight."
