Stepfather executed for the 2011 murders of actress Laila Khan and five others

Mumbai, 24 May Parvez Tak was given the death penalty by a sessions court in Mumbai on Friday for the dramatic 2011 murders of his stepdaughter, actress Laila Khan, her mother, three brothers, and a cousin sister.

Extra Meetings Tak was found guilty of many killings by Judge S.B. Pawar on May 9, and the penalty amount was decided on Friday.

Tak, Laila’s mother Selina Patel’s third husband, has been found guilty of many killings, evidence destruction, and other offenses.

In February 2011, he had murdered Selina and her four children along with a niece at their farmhouse in Igatpuri, near Nashik, allegedly due to a property dispute. He had buried their remains on the bungalow site before making off with their bodies.

The investigation concluded that the children were slain because they had seen Tak murder Selina.

The crimes were discovered nine months later when Tak was apprehended by J&K Police, and in July 2012, the skeletal remains of the six victims were discovered buried in the farmhouse’s garden.

Public prosecutor Pankaj Chavan described the case as the rarest of rare cases, including the examination of 40 witnesses. He said that Tak murdered his wife Selina first, then the five children in cold blood, for which he should have been executed.

In addition to Selina (51), Laila (30), and Azmina Khan (32), the twins Imran Khan (25) and Zara Khan (25), and their cousin sister Reshma Khan (22) were also slain.

The police had brought accusations for murder, abduction, robbery, conspiracy, and evidence destruction in the 984-page charge sheet they filed in the case.

A few Bollywood movies included Laila, such as ‘Wafaa’ (2008), in which she starred alongside the late Rajesh Khanna.

There was a lot of uproar when Laila’s father, Nadir Patel, sought the police after her family’s sudden disappearance.

The actress’ phone was last used in Igatpuri before to the family’s apparent “disappearance,” which led the authorities to investigate a number of hypotheses and conspiracies before the case was eventually solved.
