The film “My Oni Girl” by Studio Colorido will be available on Netflix on May 24

On Saturday, Studio Colorido made an amazing revelation that excited many. They revealed that their fourth anime feature film, “My Oni Girl” (Suki Demo Kirai na Amanojaku), will be released on May 24. On the same day that it opens in Japanese cinemas, the much-awaited movie will also be available to view on Netflix around the globe.

Kenshō Ono, who plays Hiiragi Yatsuse, a first-year high school student living in the charming Yamagata Prefecture, is the main character in the cast. The gifted Miyu Tomita is standing in front of him, giving Tsumugi life.
Tomotaka Shibayama, renowned for his work as a co-director of “A Whisker Away” and his participation in “Fastening Days” episode 3, will be directing. Screenwriter Yūko Kakihara, whose credits include the acclaimed films “Urusei Yatsura,” “Digimon Adventure Trilogy.,” and “Heaven’s Lost Property,” has worked with Shibayama to create the script for the movie. The evocative soundtrack is written by Mina Kubota, who has produced music for films such as “A Whisker Away,” “Kaleido Star,” and “Macross Delta.” Masafumi Yokota and Sunao Chikaoka have painstakingly sculpted the character designs.
Netflix explains the narrative:
Hiiragi is a first-year high school student who finds it difficult to say no to requests from others. He longs to get along with others and not be despised.
While attempting to fulfil yet another request without success one summer day, he meets Tsumugi, an oni girl who has travelled to the human world in search of her mother.
She is the total opposite of Hiiragi and acts as she pleases.
This fantasy story about adolescence takes place over the course of one wintery summer, presented by Studio Colorido.
A group of gifted people support the creative team: CG Director Tsukasa Saitō, Colour Key Artist Miho Tanaka, Art Director Kunihiko Inaba, Compositing Director of Photography Kei Machida, Editing Supervisor Ryota Kinami, and Sound Director Eriko Kimura. Twin Engine and Giggly Box work together to handle distribution, with Twin Engine leading the planning and presentation.
Following a successful partnership between Studio Colorido and Netflix that began with the streaming of “A Whisker Away” in 2020, comes this most recent attempt. After their first effort was a commercial success, the two parties signed a multi-year co-production agreement that resulted in the release of three more feature-length films. The engrossing “Drifting Home” in 2022 was the partnership’s first fruit, and “My Oni Girl” is the most recent example of their creative synergy.
A captivating teaser picture teased fans with a taste of the magical world that awaited them on the trip towards “My Oni Girl..”. Anticipation is growing as the release date approaches, offering audiences a globally captivating cinematic experience that cuts beyond boundaries.
