The ICC warrants against Hamas leaders and Netanyahu were facilitated by Amal Clooney

Renowned human rights attorney Amal Clooney is receiving a lot of attention for her significant contribution to the International Criminal Court’s decision to request arrest warrants for prominent Hamas and Israeli figures. The 46-year-old activist had before come under fire on the Internet for remaining silent over the killings of civilians in Gaza.

The most recent information, however, indicates that she significantly contributed to the arrest warrants for Hamas commander Yahya Sinwar and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Prosecutor Karim Khan reportedly requested to be included on an expert panel to assess evidence of possible crimes against humanity and war crimes in Gaza and Israel.

She accepted the offer and joined the group of global legal specialists to continue this effort. Karim Khan recently said that he was requesting arrest warrants for prominent Hamas leaders, Yoav Gallant, the Defense Minister, and the Israeli prime minister.

Why did Amal Clooney back war crimes charges at the ICC?
Amal was cited as stating, “Our legal findings are unanimous, despite our diverse personal backgrounds.” She went on to say that there was evidence linking Ismail Haniyeh, Mohammed Deif, and Yahya Sinwar of Hamas to “hostage-taking, murder, and crimes of sexual violence.”

In his remarks on Amal’s choice to request arrest warrants, Karim Khan also lavished praise on her. She said in her statement that she chose to let the piece speak for itself rather than provide a continuous commentary on it. Amal continued by saying that she joined the panel because she supported the rule of law and the need of preserving the lives of civilians.
