The ‘Kiss Scene’ in RRPK: How Karan Johar Won Over Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi

The box office for “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani,” directed by Karan Johar, has surpassed Rs 50 crore in only a few days. After seven years, the director made a comeback and generated a lot of buzz with “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.” The major parts in the film also include two seasoned actors, Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi, whose unexpected kissing sequence surprised the audience.

If it was challenging to persuade Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi to participate in the kissing sequence, Karan Johar was questioned in an interview with Film Companion. However, the director claimed that both actors were totally OK with it. “Two outstanding veterans are simply and impeccably performing, no questions asked. It has to be a pack for me. Abhi Na Jao Chhod Kar, one of my all-time favorites, had to be their song since she refers to Mall Road walks, their re-run, and their favorite song in the conversation. And it also developed into a thematic link between Rocky (Ranveer Singh) and Rani (Alia Bhatt),” Karan remarked.

He went on to discuss Tota Roy Chowdhury’s part in the movie and said the character was based on him as a youngster. He said that, like Tota’s character, who experiences shame after dancing on stage because people link Kathak with femininity, he too had endured name-calling in college.

“At the time, nobody alerted me to any problems. I thus assumed that this was okay growing up. Much later, when you’re in college, you realize that when you carry it through and make those motions, people stare at you and laugh.

Alia Bhatt, Ranveer Singh, and Jaya Bachchan are also featured in “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.” The movie premiered on July 28, 2023, in theaters.
