The “ten-minute” standing ovation for “The Lunchbox” at Cannes 2013 is remembered by Nimrat Kaur

Actress Nimrat Kaur has reminisced about the wonderful memories from her film “The Lunchbox,” which debuted during Critics’ Week at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival. She described the standing ovation that lasted for ten minutes as “huge.”

Nimrat told IANS that she remembered the first time “The Lunchbox” was shown to an audience at the Cannes Film Festival, saying it was crazy. We stood for a ten-minute applause. Furthermore, I had no idea what was happening.

“I remember Nawazuddin Siddiqui and I, along with director Ritesh Batra and Irrfan Khan sir, standing there taking it all in.” It really did seem like the start of something really special. For me, there is just one memorable experience. I shall never forget those ten minutes when the lights went out and returned on after the movie, Nimrat said.

This year’s 77th edition of the Cannes Film Festival features seven Indian films.

The actress, whose criminal thriller “Peddlers” was also exhibited at Cannes 2012, discussed the presence of Indian films on such a broad global canvas, saying: “We are the largest entertainment industry in the world.” It’s about time, and the work that’s being produced is amazing; all kinds of limits are being pushed, and the stuff available today is amazing.

“Anybody would be happy and proud, and I am too.” Movies, entertainment, and the entertainment industry are the main topics of discussion at Cannes and other film festivals. I’m excited for every movie that comes out, and it’s great to see our work in such a positive light,” she said.

For those who are unaware, “The Lunchbox,” which is produced by Guneet Monga, Anurag Kashyap, and Arun Rangachari, centers on Nimrat’s character, a lonely woman who strikes up a connection with an unknown man (Irrfan) with letters that a dabbawala delivers to the stranger by mistake.

The last time Nimrat was seen, she costarred with Radhika Madan in the 2023 mystery thriller “Sajini Shinde Ka Viral Video.” On May 25 at 9 p.m., the film will have its debut on the &xplorHD channel.
