When Dharmendra lost his temper when Raaj Kumar made comments about his physical appearance

The late Bollywood actor Raaj Kumar possessed a mysterious aura that translated into a commanding presence on film. The Pakeezah actor brought his no-nonsense police demeanor to his new career after working as a sub-inspector for the Bombay Police prior to becoming an actor. He was notoriously haughty and did not mince words while giving someone the silent treatment. Raaj Kumar was revered and feared in equal measure because of his character. There was a period, too, when he found a counterpart in the business—someone who wouldn’t accept the crude statements made about him.

Dharmendra, a seasoned actor, was the guy. It took place during the production of the 1965 film Kaajal, in which both actors appeared. Raaj Kumar allegedly made a comment on Dharmendra’s brawn and muscular build. Raaj Kumar reportedly questioned Ram Maheshwari about whether the film required wrestlers or actors. Dharmendra was obviously annoyed by this, but he said nothing.

Raaj Kumar afterwards referred to Dharmendra as a bandar (monkey), and in true Raaj Kumar fashion, he even smiled at the joke. Dharmendra reportedly lost his cool this time and even grabbed Raaj Kumar by the collar. If other cast and crew members hadn’t stepped in and stopped the two, things may have taken a worse turn.

According to reports, Raaj Kumar left the site and declined to continue shooting. Only after much persuasion did both performers agree to work together, and the movie was eventually finished.

Meena Kumari, Padmini, Mumtaz, and Helen were also included in the big office hit Kaajal. When Raaj Kumar made offensive remarks about a young Sunny Deol in Dharmendra’s presence at a private party, the two actors allegedly got into a furious quarrel for the second time.

At the age of 69, throat cancer claimed the life of Raaj Kumar. His son Puru Rajkumar has made a few cinema appearances as well.
