Willem Dafoe and Tom Hiddleston will feature in Tenzing Norgay’s biography, the Everest pioneer

May 10, Los Angeles Hollywood actors Willem Dafoe and Tom Hiddleston have been cast in the film biography of the renowned Indian-Nepali climber Tenzing Norgay.

Norgay was one of the first people to reach the top of the highest mountain in the world when he ascended Mount Everest in 1953 with Sir Edmund Hillary.

According to Variety.com, Hiddleston will play Hillary, while Dafoe will play Colonel John Hunt, the head of the English expedition.

To cast the principal part of Norgay, casting is now ongoing.

The well-known director Jennifer Peedom (‘Solo, Sherpa,’) is the creator of ‘Tenzing.’ She has a strong connection with the Sherpa culture and has the unique rights to narrate the narrative of the Indian-Nepali climber via his family.

The project is written by Luke Davies, who is nominated for an Academy Award, and is produced by See-Saw Films’ Liz Watts, Emile Sherman, and Iain Canning in addition to Davies and Jennifer Peedom. Norbu Tenzing, David Michod, and Simon Gillis are the executive producers.

“I couldn’t be more thrilled to bring Tenzing Norgay’s story to the screen,” said Peedom. I have dedicated my whole career to this project, and I am very grateful to Tenzing’s family for giving me this opportunity. I can’t wait to bring this tale to life in collaboration with See-Saw Films and our incredible ensemble.”

The director went on to say that Willem Dafoe and Tom Hiddleston are two of the most kind and gifted performers in the industry, so it will be exciting to have them along with our outstanding Himalayan group.

“I am certain that this movie will be well received. “This film shows us what humans are truly capable of, and we all have our own mountains to climb,” Peedom said.

Norgay, a man of Tibetan descent, and Hillary, a climber from New Zealand, both foreigners on a British expedition, overcame all odds to reach the peak of Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world.

In the movie, Norgay makes one last effort at everything after failing six times. On the most important ascent of his life, he must negotiate dangerous weather conditions and shady politics.

“Jen is somebody who has earned the respect of our people, understands the community, and is deeply immersed in our culture,” said Norbu Tenzing, son of Tenzing Norgay. She has always been interested in my father’s life narrative and is a wonderful human being that we trust.

Sherman and Canning of See-Saw commented, “We are so excited to embark on this exhilarating ascent led by one of the most inspirational directors we’ve encountered, Jennifer Peedom.”

Producer Liz Watts continued, saying, “This is an incredible narrative driven by the really potent writing by Luke Davies. We are thrilled to share Tenzing’s incredible narrative with audiences all around the globe under the genuine and compelling direction of Jen Peedom and with our very talented ensemble.
