9 people were murdered in an alleged arson attack at a wholesale market in central Mexico

In a large wholesale market in central Mexico, a suspected arson attack on Monday left nine people dead, according to officials.

The state prosecutor’s office claimed security camera video showed armed men dumping what is believed to have been a combustible substance before escaping the market in Toluca.

A statement claimed that “nine people lost their lives, eight of them at the site and one more in a hospital,” and suggested that the fire may have been caused by commercial disputes.

With almost 26,000 daily visitors, Toluca’s Central de Abastos is the second-largest market in Mexico, according to officials.

The State of Mexico, which has the most inhabitants and is also one of the most dangerous in terms of crime, has its capital in this metropolis, which is close to Mexico metropolis.

The fire was likely caused by arguments between market merchants and property owners, Toluca mayor Raymundo Martinez said the Milenio newspaper.
