A 6.1-magnitude earthquake strikes Japan, but there is no tsunami warning

Tuesday’s earthquake in northern Japan’s prefectures of Iwate and Aomori had a preliminary magnitude of 6.1.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the epicentre was in the northern coastal region of Iwate Prefecture.

“On Tuesday, an earthquake that struck the northern Japanese prefectures of Iwate and Aomori had a preliminary magnitude of 6.1. The agency said that the epicentre was in the northern coastal region of Iwate Prefecture and that no tsunami warning had been issued. No reports of immediate damage were received,” the agency said.
