After an Italian military plane crashes during training, a 5-year-old dies

According to Defense Minister Guido Crosetto, an Italian military aircraft crashed near Turin while conducting an exercise, killing a five-year-old child and colliding with a family’s vehicle.

According to the Italian news agency AGI, the victim’s nine-year-old sibling suffered critical injuries, but the two parents and the pilot of the plane were not in imminent danger.

In a statement, Crosetto said that “the ministry expresses its condolences to the family members” and that he “had made available every facility and skill for the handling of the emergency and in support of any people involved.”

The pilot jumped out of the plane while using a parachute, according to deputy prime minister Matteo Salvini, who made the statement on X, previously known as Twitter. “A terrible disaster. He added, “A prayer and a hug of heartfelt condolences.”
