Bondi Junction in Sydney ‘How’s Your Sensitivity?’ The father of the stabbing suspect questions the media’s lack of empathy

Joel Cauchi, 40, is the focus of extensive media attention after his identification as the suspect in the stabbing that occurred on April 13 in Sydney, Australia’s Westfield Bondi Junction retail center. Andrew Cauchi, the father of the suspect, blasted the media on Monday for their “lack of compassion” in reporting on his son’s acts.

After the event, Andrew Cauchi became enraged with the media who had gathered outside their Toowoomba, Queensland, house for the incident’s coverage. According to a Daily Mail article, he said that everything was OK until the media showed up. He reportedly did this before to feed a flock of pigeons that he raises in his garden.
How would you say I feel? How’s your sensitivity?” The newspaper cited him as asking. “I felt alright until you got here.”

On April 13, Joel Cauchi began a stabbing rampage at Sydney’s Westfield Bondi Junction retail center, leaving six people dead and at least twelve injured. A nine-month-old baby was also among the wounded. Around 3:20 p.m. local time, he began his rampage, which lasted until 4:00 p.m., when he was shot and killed by responding police officer Amy Scott on the fifth level of the shopping mall.

Although Cauchi did not have a criminal history, the New South Wales police said that she had many run-ins with the law in both Queensland and New South Wales due to concerns relating to her mental health. His parents are “very religious,” and they called their son’s behavior “truly horrific,” according to the Daily Mail.
