Extending missile testing, North Korea’s leader Kim demands war preparedness

SEOUL: The military of South Korea reported the identification of North Korea’s launch of multiple cruise missiles into the waters off its western coast on Friday. This marks another instance of provocative weapons testing amid escalating tensions with the United States, South Korea, and Japan. The Joint Chiefs of Staff in the South stated that the US and South Korean armed forces are currently scrutinizing the launches, constituting the North’s fourth iteration of cruise missile tests in 2024.

No immediate details are available regarding the specific count of missiles fired or their range.

These launches occurred shortly after North Korean state media announced that leader Kim Jong Un had inspected the construction of warships at a shipyard in the western port city of Nampho. During this visit, he urged his military to intensify preparations for war.

In January, North Korea conducted three rounds of cruise missile tests, featuring what it termed a long-range cruise missile and a novel weapon designed for submarine launches.
