Fighting a wildfire in the Northwest Territories, a Canadian firefighter perishes

In Canada’s Northwest Territories, a firefighter lost his life combating a wildfire close to his home hamlet, according to officials. The fireman from Fort Liard passed away on Saturday afternoon after suffering an injury while putting out a neighboring fire, according to a statement from the territory administration.

Air quality in the US and Canada has been impacted by the wildfires burning throughout Canada, which have surpassed records for total area burnt. The fireman was battling a blaze that erupted on July 7 in the Fort Liard District and is now located approximately 26 kilometers southeast of the town, according to wildfire information officer Jessica Davey-Quantick.

No other information on the fireman will be released, according to her, until family members were informed. The incident occurred two days after a fireman from British Columbia named Devyn Gale was killed by a falling tree outside Revelstoke. The 19-year-old woman’s team had lost communication with her prior to the mishap, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, who conducted a search and discovered her.
