Germany promises a strong response after petrol bombs were thrown at a Jewish temple in Berlin amid rising anti-Semitism

In the early hours of Wednesday, criminals attacked a synagogue in Berlin with what looks to be an anti-Semitic assault. The assaults followed a rise in tensions between Israel and Palestine in the Middle East.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz denounced the firebomb assault in response to the most recent anti-Semitic incident in Germany. “We will never accept when attacks are made against Jewish institutions,” he said.

Numerous police officers were stationed in front of the synagogue in the Mitte neighborhood of Berlin as the Berlin Police initiated an investigation into the incident. According to authorities, nearby streets have been closed off for the investigation.

Two masked individuals approached the synagogue at roughly 3:45 am (local time) and tossed two Molotov cocktails, which exploded close to the building on the sidewalk, according to police reports describing the incident. Then the helpers walked away from the site.

Later, during the course of the inquiry, authorities prevented a second attempt at an assault when a 30-year-old man rode a scooter up to the synagogue and attempted to force access into the building. When the cops apprehended him, he shouted “anti-Israel.”

Jewish groups in the area have expressed profound sorrow at the occurrence. The Central Council of Jews, the largest Jewish organization in Germany, released a statement saying, “We are all outraged by this terrorist assault. “Most of all, the local families in the vicinity of the synagogue are alarmed and uneasy. Deeds follow words. Germany is also seeing the effects of the exterminationist ideology of Hamas.

Scholz told reporters Wednesday when he was in Egypt that Germany will not put up with anti-Semitic or violent protests. He also underscored the dedication to strengthening Jewish institutions’ safety.

What some of them are yelling and doing personally outrages me, and I’m sure that the people of Germany concur, remarked Scholz.

Strong ‘pro-Palestine’ demonstrations were already seen all around Germany. The protesters, who included many Muslim immigrants, condemned Israel for its “indiscriminate bombings in Gaza.”
