Gohar Khan, who was dismissed for being a “incompetent and poor performer,” was once again nominated to be the PTI chairman

Islamabad: According to Dawn on Monday, the party of imprisoned former Pakistani prime minister Imran Khan has again chosen Barrister Gohar Khan to be its chairman, reversing its previous choice of Barrister Ali Zafar for the position. Following an intra-party vote conducted in December of last year in accordance with the directives of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Barrister Gohar, 45, was chosen to serve as the 71-year-old Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman.

Nevertheless, the outcome, which was contested by a few unhappy PTI employees, was overturned after a protracted legal dispute. The party lost its famous cricket bat emblem as a result, and Gohar—who had assumed the position of chairman after those elections—was no longer the leader of the party. Gohar said last week that Barrister Ali Zafar will be the party’s next candidate for chairman and that internal elections would take place on March 3.

Zafar declined to take up the role of chairman.
The Pakistani publication, citing party insiders, said that only Gohar filed his candidacy for the top position on Sunday at 3 p.m., notwithstanding Zafar’s refusal to accept the chairmanship. Gohar was then put forth for the top post by the previous governing party, according to the article. Since PTI founder Khan nominated Gohar, a top party official informed the publication that Gohar’s triumph is certain.

More than a month has passed since the ECP and the Supreme Court ruled that the party’s December intra-party elections were illegal, leaving the top position unfilled. On March 3, the party is set to conduct new organizational elections. As per the amended election timetable of PTI, candidates who planned to compete in the intra-party elections were required to turn in their nomination papers on February 23 and 24. On February 25, the nominations were scrutinized. In the meanwhile, on February 27 the final choices regarding nomination papers will be made public. On March 3, voting will take place at the party headquarters and four regional secretariats.

Marwat received a show-cause notice from PTI.
Senior politician Sher Afzal Marwat was sent a show-cause notice by the PTI on Saturday, and they demanded an apology from him for saying that Gohar had been “removed” from the position of party chairman due to his “incompetence” and “poor” performance. “Gohar was removed as chairman due to incompetence and poor performance. Although Barrister Gohar is a gentleman, Marwat told Geo News that his performance was lacking.

He said that Gohar, who ought to have led the party after the elections on February 8, had failed, and that the party leadership’s actions after the election results were not praiseworthy.

In the contentious general election, the independents supported by the PTI secured the majority of seats in the National Assembly. Khan’s hopes of winning reelection have been almost eliminated, however, since the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) have reached an agreement on a power-sharing arrangement to create a new coalition government. The PTI has vehemently disagreed with the efforts of two of its fiercest adversaries to create a coalition government, threatening to unleash the worst kind of political instability should the “mandate thieves” steal its public backing.
