Iran’s Supreme Leader Justifies Hardline Policy Towards the West and Slurs Demonstrators As “Thugs And Villains”

The supreme leader of Iran maintained his harsh stance towards the West on Sunday, claiming that giving in to pressure from Iran’s adversaries will only increase tensions. He also blamed recent anti-government demonstrations on “thugs and villains.”

The comments from Ayatollah Ali Khamenei come as tensions over Iran’s nuclear programme, which has advanced significantly in the five years after then-President Donald Trump withdrew the US from a global agreement restricting it, are growing with Western nations.

Without requiring any concessions from Iran’s leaders, Trump reinstated the crushing sanctions that have resulted to a catastrophic economic disaster. Iran has also sent weaponized drones that have wrecked havoc in the Ukrainian capital of Kiev as part of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Khamenei, who has the ultimate word in all significant Iranian decisions, said that “some people are mistaken to think that if we back down from our stances in certain cases that will cause the enmity of the U.S., the global arrogance, or Israel towards us to diminish.” “This is erroneous.”

At an annual address commemorating the passing of his predecessor and the founder of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, he made a statement.

Khamenei made reference to the widespread demonstrations that broke out last autumn as a result of the passing of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old woman who had been arrested by the morality police for allegedly breaking the nation’s stringent dress code.

Before a fatal crackdown generally put an end to them, the demonstrations became violent and included demands for the Islamic Republic’s downfall.

While the protestors said they were protesting decades of economic mismanagement and persecution, Iranian authorities have blamed the demonstrations on a foreign plot without offering any supporting proof.

According to Khamenei, “thugs and villains did what they did and malicious people chanted such slogans.” They believed the Islamic Republic was doomed and that they could use the Iranian people as servants, according to their plan. Once again, these idiots were in error. Once again, they were ignorant about our people.
