More Western weapons for Ukraine would only fuel an escalation, according to the Kremlin

The Kremlin said on Monday that supplying Ukraine with more Western weapons will only cause the crisis there to worsen.
The Western NATO allies were also becoming more engaged in the crisis, according to Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, but their arming of Ukraine would not alter the course of events.
In response to a question on the public request by Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Andriy Melnyk for Germany to deliver Kyiv a submarine, Peskov said that "Ukraine desires more and more armaments."
He said that "the West is promoting these demands and declares its willingness to give such weapons."
"It's a dead-end position," he added. "It leads to enormous escalation, it leads to NATO nations increasingly getting actively engaged in the crisis, but it doesn't have the capacity to alter the course of events and won't do so."
Germany and the United States stated last week that they will provide main battle tanks to Ukraine, promising for the first time blatantly aggressive weaponry to support Ukraine's resistance against Russian troops.
